Our sailing schedule is designed to include guests, but THIS IS NOT A CRUISE SHIP! Aboard Highlander Sea, participation is encouraged, but not mandatory. You will be able to handle sails, work as a deckhand and stand watch. Many consider standing watch the most rewarding experience of the trip. We ask that you bring an ample supply of enthusiasm, common sense, a willingness to learn new things, a sense of humor, and respect for your crewmates, the ship and her mission.
The accommodations aboard Highlander Sea are rustic, simple and co-ed (similar to camping). Living aboard offers a remarkable opportunity to experience life in close proximity to the elements and to people.
Foc'sle accommodations consist of taunt canvas bunks fitted with sheets, blankets and a pillow. The foc'sle is the most forward portion of the below deck space. Twelve berths are arranged in four banks of three bunks. Privacy here is limited as is storage space.
The main salon is also a charming space, wide and tall by schooner standards, finished in bright and dark wood. There is a large table, a small library and a stereo. The salon berths measure roughly 76" x 38" and consist of foam cushions covered and blanketed to create a nest like bunk. Six of these twelve bunks have curtains and afford limited privacy.
